Birders – here’s a reference site for all sorts of things related to bird watching In NY State.
Birders will also find the guidebooks “Birding in Central & Western New York – Best Trails & Water Routes for Finding Birds” and ” 25 Great Wildlife Viewing Sites in the Thousand Islands and St. Lawrence Seaway Region of NY State” useful.

If anyone plans on being in the south eastern end of the Adirondack region, I checked out the Gull Bay Preserve where there is a nesting colony of Blue Heron this weekend. There’s a trail to the rookery, a look out point on the way where you get a nice view of Lake George. Real easy hike, even if you aren’t a strong hiker – only one steep spot. You could easily walk in, eat lunch and take pictures of the heron, and come back all in under three hours. I took the guided tour but you can go on your own as well.
This is the link to their website if you want more information or directions:

I didn’t know there were local books and since we have a cabin in St. Lawrence County, these look like books I would be very interested in. Did you read my post about the Oriole nest at our neighbor’s cottage? The eggs are being laid now and remain in the nest believe it or not.
My bluebirds have also laid 4 eggs so far.
