I tried winter camping once. Once was enough for me. Many people swear by it – no bugs, no crowds, etc. It does have some advantages. I was fine while we hiked. But once we stopped, I couldn’t keep warm. And, even with 2 pads under me and a warm down sleeping bag, I didn’t stay warm at night.
But, don’t let me dissuade those of you who find joy in winter camping. or, even those of you who want to give it a try. I firmly believe everyone should try things like that at least once before making a decision.
Maybe I just didn’t do it right. If you’re going to try it, or want to fine tune your winter camping skills, here’s a web site full of worthwhile information: http://www.wintercampers.com/
