Ontario, Canada started the Bike Train concept started two years ago connecting Toronto and Niagara Falls. Via introduced rail cars with bike racks on select trains, allowing cyclists to stay overnight and explore a region on two wheels.
As a result of the initial popularity, the service was expanded in 2008 and Bike Train project director Justin Lafontaine is looking to extend it into eastern Ontario this year, including Brockville.
The Bike Train website (www.biketrain.ca) also includes a series of trips for cyclists between the various eastern Ontario destinations, highlighting things to do and see as well as describing the terrain they’ll encounter and “route challenges” such as traffic and road conditions.
