What’s new on Governors Island? Plenty, for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Less than 10 minutes away from lower Manhattan via ferry, it’s a lot closer than you think.
Walk or bike around the new 2.2 mile promenade that circles the entire island, which is open Friday to Sunday through Oct. 11.
Longtime visitors needn’t worry – all your favorite island features are still around, like the 7-mile bike path on which no cars are allowed. If you don’t have a bike, you can borrow one for the day at no charge on Free Bike Fridays (bikes are available on a first-come, first-serve basis).
