The nights are cold again in Keene Valley and the folks at The Mountaineer are getting excited about ice and snow: They should be climbing, skiing and snowshoeing in a matter of weeks. Their winter events schedule is taking shape, and there will be more opportunities than ever before to join them and take a clinic, test gear or catch a slide show or movie.
Mountainfest, taking place January 15-17, will be a fun time as always, with guest climbers Steve House and Erik Weihenmayer coming to teach clinics and share their stories. Please see www.mountaineer.com for all Mountainfest information, and call now to register for any clinics you are interested in before they fill up.
The Mountaineer will host several ski events for the winter, culminating in the annual Backcountry Ski Festival on March 6-7. Dynafit will sponsor a movie night on December 19th featuring the new Sweetgrass Productions backcountry ski film, Signatures. They’re also planning a Backcountry Ski Adventure Camp on February 6-7. This will be an intensive two-day event aimed at skiers with prior backcountry experience who are looking to bring their skills to the next level. More info on all these events will be on the web site as soon as it becomes available.
Take advantage of Mountainfest and Skifest to improve your climbing or skiing ability, enjoy the entertainment, and help The Mountaineer support worthy local charities and organizations. Here’s to the anticipation of another excellent winter season!
