The first trails were completed in the Yorktown community trail network. The trail network will eventually stretch from Lexington Avenue across Stony Street and the Taconic State Parkway to Woodlands Park. Very few town parks have more than four miles of trails in a park and Yorktown will eventually have 12 miles!
While volunteers from the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference have been busy building the trails in Sylvan Glen Park Preserve, the Westchester Mountain Biking Association has built bridges on the Yorktown Trailway and trails in Woodlands Park. Volunteers from these two user groups have brought different skill sets and connections to the project. In seven months, they conceived the idea and now have some trails ready to use. The bridge projects were funded by grants from ClifBars and Specialized with the support of Yorktown Cycles. Both groups are delighted to have this opportunity to provide recreational trails and are grateful for the support that the town has given them.
