Greg Wooster shared this on the FLTC e-list. It’s a h=good heads-up for all outdoors folks:
Now that the snow is thawing it might be wise to send out an information alert to hikers, trail maintainers, etc. Lyme is definitely present in the Central NY Finger Lakes Region, and with the thaw hungry ticks are emerging. I picked a deer tick off of me on Saturday. My wife has had lyme disease as well as several neighbors and friends in the townships south of Ithaca (Danby, Newfield, Etc). An advisory to inform people about tick awareness, vigilance with body inspections and clothing separation (keeping outdoor cloths in basement for example) would be wise. Hopefully the information below will not be to alarming but a little awareness and prevention goes a long way. Thanks, Greg
