Ticks gross you out. So, being prepared to deal with them really helps out.
The Ticked Off tool (I think it looks just like a spoon) and the Tick Key are two tools to keep in your daypack this time of
the year. They cost less than $5 and can be found at outdoor-equipment stores.
If I had to choose between the two, it would be difficult. Both worked equally well in making the process pretty slick.
The Tick Key might have been just a little easier in snagging the tick.
We recently found a tick embedded right next to the puppy’s eye after our hike near Folsom Lake State Park in California. It was in a tricky place, but I dug out my little Ticked Off spoon from my first-aid kit and it removed the tick pretty easily. We put a little antibiotic on the wound and the puppy seems to be doing fine.
Tick tools work pretty easily because they have a little slot that takes the embedded tick from the skin right at its head, removing all the tick. It’s pretty slick.
Ticked Off is $10 at www.tickedoff.com. You can find locations to get the Tick Key at www.tickkey.com, or you can get one for about $6 on Amazon.
By the way, they work on people, too. Ugh.
