“Spot GPS Locator” is the “OnStar” for outdoor adventurers. If you are bicycle touring or backpacking and would like a back up communication plan that does not rely on the availability of cell phone coverage; Let me introduce you to the “Spot GPS Locator”
We first experienced it on our Panama jungle trek and it worked great. We were able to track our location and keep everyone posted back home on our where-abouts every evening. If you’re staying at regular lodging, the Google Maps link lets everyone see the motel (roof) that you’re staying in.
The 911 Feature: Along with the “Check In” function it is able to summon help through a 911 type link. When this button is pressed a signal is relayed thru a satellite and bounced into the telephone network calling the nearest Emergency Responder, even if there is no cell tower signal for a regular emergency call. All in all, a handy safety gadget.
