The Adirondack Recreational Trail Advocates (ARTA) is a citizen group formed to convert the 90-mile railroad bed that connects Old Forge and Lake Placid into a world-class recreational trail for snowmobiling in the winter and bicycling, hiking, running, strolling, sports training, bird watching and handicapped use during the warmer months. Since September, ARTA has recruited more than 2,500 supporters and expects to reach 5,000 by next summer.
