It took decades, but a multi-use recreation trail is finally opening in Clinton County, New York.
Officials cut the ribbon May 21, 2012 on the first phase that runs 1.3 miles along the Saranac River in Plattsburgh, from behind the police station, up to the SUNY campus.
The project was first proposed 30 years ago. It cost 1.5 million dollars to construct and was paid for with a state transportation grant. The city is now looking to expand the trail into the downtown and Plattsburgh Marina. Eventually it will link to trails in Plattsburgh Town and Saranac.
