The east side of Rochester is home to crew teams from Pittsford, Fairport, Brighton, Mercy and McQuaid. Now a rowing organization is forming on the west side of town.
Spencerport Rowing Club is currently enrolling high school-aged boys and girls interested in participating in crew. The club has a long-range goal for a boathouse and a program for adults.
Rowing is a full-body workout that can increase aerobic capacity and strength. John Bernfield, the revered local rowing coach and master’s champion who lives near the canal in Spencerport, is lead organizer.
Crew boats from eastside clubs will be on display and information available during Spencerport Canal Days July 28-29 and during the Erie Canal Splash Aug. 10-12. To register or obtain more information, email: email@example.com.
